PSP2 powered by cut down Cell CPU?

E3 2010 reveal very unlikely says source.

According to an unnamed VG247 source, the PSP2 is very real with a release date planned for 2011.

Adding to earlier rumours from MCV, the source indicates that it's "99 per cent" certain that the new handheld won't be shown at E3, with a gamescom or TGS debut most likely.

The handheld is said to be powered by a four core Cell CPU (that's half the cores of the PS3's version) and will feature a touch screen, face buttons and two cameras. Furthermore, the source is confident Sony will do away with physical media, instead opting for a digital only approach akin to the PSPgo. 3G functionality is also on the cards.

Finished units are also said to have made it to the UK and several developers are working on titles.

Sounds pretty impressive. All it needs now is a second analogue nub and we could have a winner.

From what I've read the PSP2 is going to also be a cell phone. If that's the case, I will buy it IF they team up with Cell phone providers to get a discount. I'm not paying $500 for a cell phone. Hopefully they take a number from google and make it available on all carriers like the Nexus One.

not buying if theres no dual thumbsticks.
i really hope it has trophies which add up with ps3 trophies and can be checked on either system.
this could possibly be the birth of PROPER fps competitive handheld gaming.

ATM my only portable gaming is done on my IPhone. The reason being I won't carry additional items around with me so it made sense to get one. I love all the free games.

I have to commute, and have been thinking about getting a handheld...I just can't make my mind up as to what I want.

If it looks like the images on Kotaku it will be a nice looking thing. With the power involved it will sump battery life but provide the console with unrivalled portable gaming graphically. Unless the 3DS has something up its sleeve.
