PS4 sales top 20.2 million units

PS4 breaks 20 million milestone with over 1.7m units sold this year alone.

Over 20.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold worldwide as of March 1, 2015, Sony has announced.

The figure means that over 1.7 million PS4 consoles have already been sold this year alone. It also represents the number of units sold through to consumers, not just the amount of consoles shipped into stores.

"We are so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation fans worldwide, and we are truly humbled that gamers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play," said Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House.

"We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver unique and interactive entertainment experiences powered by the network and the PS4 system's deep social capabilities."

Xbox One's sales tally, meanwhile, hasn't been officially updated since November, when Microsoft announced that almost 10 million units had been shipped to retailers worldwide.
