PlayStation 4 is Amazon UK's fourth best-selling gaming product of 2013, according to the site's official best-sellers list, with Xbox One limping in at no. 70.

The console has also re-overtaken Xbox One in Amazon's hourly best-sellers list, after Xbox One saw a brief surge in sales following this week's DRM changes.

Official pre-order numbers for either console have yet to be revealed, but it's believed by many that Microsoft altered its DRM policies after the product struggled to attract reservations.

Both consoles go on sale this Christmas, with an update on Amazon US pinning a November 27 release date on Xbox One.

This post is so wrong, I just couldn't help myself.

"They bring things like Kinect (copied by Sony)" Are you serious? Kinect is a direct copy of the concept that Sony brought with Eyetoy back in 2000.
"Live (copied by Sony)" And Live was just Xbox copying Sega and partly Nintendo with their efforts in Japan.

"Go back even further and Microsoft started a whole damn games industry by putting a PC in everyone's homes by 1997"
You have got to be f***ing kidding me. There is one company, and one company only to be thanked for bringing gaming to the living room : Nintendo with the NES. In 1985!
Microsoft entered the gaming business YEARS after it already started thriving.

What is Microsoft doing now? They're taking last gen's gimmick (motion control) and improving the technology behind it, while both consumers and developers have moved on. Hell, even Nintendo who made it big moved on.

Yes, you now have to pay for PSN, true. But this is purely so they can provide the best online service. Now it brings everything 360 had over PS3 (things like cross-game chat) and adds more to it, because you're paying for PS+
You get tons of free games to download every month.
I started using it in November and I already downloaded for about 800 dollars worth of games.

You adore Microsoft for being "innovative" in gaming, yet you scold Sony for introducing Bluray. Guess what, Bluray was innovation ready for the future, because HD would soon take over, and DVD was way too limited for that quality.

If you think Xbox One is going to outsell PS4 you are seriously delusional. It might just happen in the N.A. over time, but not in any other region.

Yet in another forum I just read some of that "onslaught" and had to point out to one avid PS fanboi that he was arguing DRM didn't restrict sharing games as he was too busy pointing out the U turn MS made.

Draconian policies. They are a company that has shareholders, just like Sony. You think they are your "friends". Look Sony made $billions on you, yet they now you have to pay for things like PS live. (copied from Microsoft BTW). Clever marketing states... oh but your helping invest in new infrastructure. Well if Sony are only putting that in now - good luck having that ready for Holiday season.

Microsoft are the largest investors in innovation $12bil a year. They bring things like Kinect (copied by Sony), Live (copied by Sony). People forget Sony just brought out a games console to flog blu ray.

Go back even further and Microsoft started a whole damn games industry by putting a PC in everyone's homes by 1997 with their "draconian" policies. US Government wanted to Tax the internet and couldn't (Microsoft fought it) - so they got sued instead. Made the 9pm news and people just love to hate.

You should be kissing a poster of Bill G every time you start your PS4 as Microsoft pretty much started this whole industry.

Yeh and Sony had DRM on disk back in late 90's that put a virus on your computer....

All that different is Microsoft make 9pm News and parents do the rest.

Absolute twaddle.

They will both sell but PS4 will obviously sell more but I don't plan on buying any yet, i'd rather wait 6-months or more to see the games then deciding if I should get one.

They will both do well even with xONE big OOPS. I can't wait to see some solid official numbers to put this to rest. Personally I own both consoles and I will be going PS4 so sorry xONE. To be honest both consoles are neck and neck far as gaming goes. It just boils down to the exclusives at this point in the console war. I can't knock either of them for that and I as a gamer just want to play a freaking video game.

Microsoft just scares me with the way they are doing things at the moment. Such as bald face lie to it's consumers then turning around and take it back. Trust me there's more to the xONE than we know at the moment.

People when you think Microsoft just keep in mind the NSA/Prism. It's bad enough the internet we use on a daily is being sniffed by god knows who with entities like facebook google etc.. Now you allowing a game console that will at some point will be connected to the internet that "REQUIRES" a camera to be actively hooked up to it in your home. Listen to me, it's an (accessory) that "HAS" to be hook up to it. Even if you have some setting that allows limited use it's still a requirement. Let the data collecting begin. I know Microsoft said that "THEY" wouldn't be listening and using the collected data but who will? You may wanna read up and watch the news about all the privacy issues we as a country is having. It's no longer text and web searches, In xONE case it's your voice, facial recognition, the scanning of your living space and all that dwell in it plus any outside people that ever set foot in that monitored space. Remember these new consoles don't really shut off they sleep kinda like cellphones which is one of the new bonuses in Next Gen Consoles. Yea I'll Pass on xONE....... I'm sure PS4 is not better but from where I stand they are looking a lot better.

I like Xbox just as much as PS as stated before I own them both. I also own the kinect for the 360 and the Eye for PS3. When I'm not using them they are completely disconnected. Currently when these camera are not connected it does not interrupt my ability to use the console so why now?

I'll stop ranting

I agree that Xbox One will still sell very well because Xbox is just as much (if not more so) a household name as Playstation and Nintendo are. Plus, a lot of people still don't know about those crazy DRM policies so now they'll be none the wiser because Microsoft will want to quickly sweep it under the rug (before stealthily reintroducing it at some point, that is).

I won't be buying an Xbox One until they stop forcing me to buy into Kinect - in other words... I won't be buying an Xbox One. I'd much rather buy a PS4 but I didn't preorder it. I'm happy to wait until early 2014 ish in case there are any launch issues and then I can decide whether to buy one or wait til they fix hardware/software problems.

A little bad press? That wasn't a little bad press. It was a worldwide onslaught on Microsoft's draconian policies and rightly so. I'm glad that it made a difference because that's what's supposed to happen.

Indeed though you only have to look at the current generation to see what an impact a high starting price in one camp can do for adoption rates. Took the PS3 a long time to recoup it's early losses and catch up to the 360.

I know for sure that if the 360 and PS3 had been the same or comparable price, I would have probably gone for a PS3. I was firmly in the Sony camp before the 360, only owning an original Xbox after getting it for £100 at the end of the generation.

Microsoft will be fine, and despite complaints hardcore gamers won't abandon their gamer scores that lightly. Bad press or not, the One box will still sell millions in the first year based on the Xbox name alone, and after that price drops and games will carry it through the rest of its life cycle.

Having said that, I've got my PS4 pre-ordered, and currently not planning on getting the One box. But, I'm biased since I'm more of a Sony guy, and preferred the PS3 over the 360 despite having owned both systems.

I think the difference is that the list that videogamer was quoting was the bestsellers list of 2013. The list Dave used for the article is a comparison of the best selling game items of 2013 overall as of right now.

The list you are looking at is the list of best selling items currently i.e. the list of products that are current selling the best per hour updated regularly.

Well to be honest this article is completely wrong, it says past best seller. For the actual results it is here:

I'm not complaining but people should do some further research before they jump to conclusions.

Live long and prosper.

(EDIT) Maybe not completely wrong...

What's even more amazing is that this whole time the Xbox One has been promoted on the amazon uk homepage, with absolutely no mention of the PS4.

I guess the consumer base is a more clued up than some were giving them credit for.

Things will get more interesting closer to the time though, when actual advertising to the public at large begins. It's likely only the most hardcore gamers (and thus the most knowledgeable) are heavily pre-ordering at this time.

It's true. Microsoft's biggest markets were the UK and the US. Mainland Europe and Japan, have both always been favouring Sony this generation. To be outsold (in pre-orders) by their competitor in the two markets Microsoft where most dominant, is something they couldn't concede.

Mix that with the fact they were limiting themselves in the potential people and places they could sell the Xbox One to/in from the start anyway...

Not sure if that's all bad news, the UK is a pretty small territory compared to the USA, where the PS4 and XBox One are ranked 2nd and 4th respectively on the equivalent Bestseller list.

But still, for the PS4 to be ranked 2nd on Microsoft's home turf? Microsoft know they've dropped the ball big time, question is what more can they do about it?
