PS3 increases Blu-ray sales by 1000%

More than 180,000 Blu-ray discs sold in Europe, with a huge increase in sales thanks to PS3's release in March.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that the PlayStation 3 has given sales of Sony's Blu-ray format a huge boost. To date more than 180,000 Blu-ray titles have been sold across Europe, with sales having increased by over 1000% since the PlayStation 3 launched in March, 2007.

"The launch of the PS3 had a tremendous impact on Blu-ray software sales across the board," says Matt Brown, executive VP, international at Sony Pictures. "Recent sales figures are a clear indication that the PS3 is seen as an entertainment device."

Sony Pictures also notes that its own titles account for more than 50% of all sales in the UK, France and Spain. Casino Royal is mentioned as one of the biggest selling titles.
