He said that "to the PS3, an OS is like any other application,"
How will this affect the performance/flexebility of the Linux OS?
I supose there is a HAL like the XEN kernel to support needed API's for "any" other OS kernel's... this might limit the flexebility of fine tuning and tweaking... I remember how the Amiga cold make 4096 colours (HAM) just with software tweaking into the hardware.. and later stereo 14bit audio using it's 4 channel 8 bit DAC's...
I think that once you compare the PS3 price of $599 to 360's $399 you think Sony is over charging but I feel that they are not. Especially when you consider the fact that Microsoft is supposed to be releasing an HD-DVD drive for the 360 that will cost $250. If HD-DVD games become a norm for the 360 then you will need to spend this extra $250 to play the newest 360 titles. So when you look at the 360 with the HD-Drive it now costs $649 if Microsoft decides to go the HD-DVD route. When you look at it the PS3 offers more for less overall. I myself own a 360 and feel a little angry with the way Microsoft is handling the 360 and its expensive accessories.
I plan on buying a PS3 myself because I love the titles that Sony brings to the gaming world and to 360 has to many FPS and sports games compared to other genre. I will purchase all of the consoles because I would like to see these consoles fighting it out for or money a little competition is good. I don't think Sony forgot about its gaming fans because I know I would lover larger more detailed games even if they are on blu ray. Another way to look at is the fact that people are still buying cd players for the same price as the PS3.
I am not so sure that HD DVD will become the format of choice according to some sites Sony and there partners will be able to control roughly 36% of the market with blu ray while HD-DVD does not have any area in the DVD market yet. I have also read that the average blu ray disk will only cost around $23.45 for new movies and $17.99 older ones. If this is true Sony may actually be able to succeed with blu ray but you never know whatÂ’s going to happen until it does.
