The new update does nothing to fix the problems some users are having with their 1080i displays, but does re-arrange the order of the display resolution options, switching 1080i and 720p around – also giving 1080i higher preference than 720p.

Of more worth is the addition of a BD/DVD image output option, enabling you to switch between auto, RGB and Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr over HDMI. There’s also the ability to backup your SD cards, compact flash cards and USB sticks to the PS3’s HDD. If for some reason you want to wipe the PS3 and start all over again, you can now also do this and get that new console excitement all over again.
