A report by analyst Compete has revealed that 73% of current-gen console owners believe the PS3 is too expensive.

The report, which was carried out during October, surveyed active current-gen console owners about the upcoming next-gen offerings. One startling revelation is that 48% of those thinking about buying a PS3 believe that the console will only cost $300, not the $499 and $599 price tags the two SKUs will retail for.

Once informed of the actual price, 60% thought that the price was too high. Including all the people surveyed, 73% felt that the PS3 price is too expensive.

Talking only to PS2 owners, 63% said they might buy a PS3. When asking Nintendo GameCube owners the same question about the Wii, only 39 percent said they were considering a purchase - an equal number of GameCube owners said they might buy a PS3. This is certainly a worrying percentage for Nintendo, especially given that Nintendo is considered to have the most loyal fan base of all the platform holders.

Btw, I dont have cash flowing out of my ears either, so I dont think its over priced, I just think its unrealistic to ask for that much, no matter how good of a buy it is. Its just not every kid who loves video games like me can go out and buy something that expensive, and sony needs to look at the group of people they are targeting with thier video games and realize "most of these people arent full adults yet, and they dont exactly have an unlimited flow of cash, so we should probably ditch some less useful features, and drop the price some". I thought the same thing about the XBox 360, but I had an uneasy feeling about it from the begining. Microsoft has a lot of flaws in newly released products, where as I am willing to say that the PS3 will be without flaw, due to its long wait time, and the fact that sony is very reliable and has very good products, without having to remake a product multiple times.

A blue light laser disk reader is a lot like a CD players disk reader, the difference is it reads at a different frequency, and scratch on disks do not affect it. the blue light reader allows the console to play disks with less skips, more animated graphics in higher detail, allows it to have more game on a disk, and allows the games to either be longer in length, or MUCH mor advanced in graphics. The potential of a blue disk game reader, dvd player and cd player, is endless. Imagine having every song in your ipod on one cd and being able to have 50 of those. then imagine being able to have next-to real life graphics in a video game, or allowing for things such as virtual reality etc etc to kick in. This is a revolution in gaming. The price of this system may seem steep, but you get your moneys worth just in the consoles parts, let alone in the enjoyment of the games.

As for whoever said "blue ray will crash and burn" they need to realize that when they compared it to the needs of an hd tv, it was probably the most pathetic comparison ever. An xbox 360 and a PS3 both have increadibly high graphics, and those graphics are not limited to only hd tvs. The graphics a PS3 would produce would be top of the line, and could easily play at 98% potential, which blows every game system just about any person here owns, out of the water. Thanks to the Blue Light Laser, the cds which the games are on can hold more, making the blue light laser a helpful thing, without blue light laser cds and blue light laser readers, higher graphics wouldnt be possible because you couldnt have that much information on a disk, and you couldnt read that information even if you could.

The only think I can think to say, is dont be too quick to judge.

touched a nerve have we?

anonymous bob, Xbox? The only one to mention the xbox was you! Not a mention in my post towards the xbox? And you can back up the 60% comment with hard facts then? Didn't think so!

As for the other post, did you read the link, does the sky look blue in your world? Of course they will supply the world with free ones, just like apple do with their ipods! Oh and I don't need to pick one as I have two systems and wii on way:) Just pointing out the facts that none of the systems are perfect like the sony fanboys think, emotion engine anyone? Don't believe the hype and enjoy your gaming.

One complains about backward compatibility, how many games can you play on xbox roughly about 3, mostly halo boring stuff. Next one complaing about recharging battery, the service is free from sony and plus you dont have to buy a recharge kit from microsoft and buy another one in 2 year ago cause all rechargeable loose charge.

Grow up and get real, xbox sucks, ps3 sucks and wii sucks, and they all rock. Pick one you like and play it you whiney fanboys

yep the only thing that xbox 360 and ps3 have over nintendo imo is the hd gaming i think that each of the consoles will make neough profit to be "sitting pretty" as each one has an appeal to different things that people want

It isn't that we think it's $300; we think that $600 is too expensive.

The price tag will be well worth it. For £400 you'll be getting a ps1 a ps2, the most powerful console ever made, and a bluray player. Not to mention free online play. Nintendos can be pretty cool but they don't relly come in the same league as PS
