ps3 final hardware 1 - PlayStation 3 in ample supply in US

Both the PlayStation 3 and the Wii were like gold dust following their respective launches back in November, and for the weeks that followed getting your hands on one of these new consoles was no easy task.

Things appear to be changing in regards to the PS3 availability though, with US video game retailer GameStop declaring that the next-gen PlayStation is now in stock at many of its stores.

Speaking to the New York Times, Daniel A. DeMatteo, vice chairman and COO of GameStop, said that the PlayStation 3 is available at "hundreds of the company's 3,700 outlets."

It's a different story for the Wii though, DeMatteo noting: "We got some [Wiis] in yesterday in really limited supply, and they virtually disappeared." It was a similar situation with the Wii at EB Games, a sales assistant telling GameSpot: "We got some in earlier this week and they were gone in five minutes."

The availability of the PlayStation 3 is a positive sign for European gamers eager to get their hands on the console - stock shortages in the rest of the world would not bode well for a timely launch of the system in Europe, at least not a launch with ample supply of units.

The PlayStation 3 is currently expected to launch in Europe in March.
