Pets make Avatars less lonely

Dogs, cats, fish, monkeys, birds, even a pony.

Microsoft has announced that from tomorrow, Xbox LIVE members will be able to purchase pets to keep their Avatar company.

The first batch of pets includes: large dog, pug dog, dog in bag, cat, Siamese cat, long haired cat, goldfish, guinea pig, monkey, bird, snake and a pony.

Each pet is priced 240 MS Points.

I'm not that attached to my Avatar that I'd actually go and spend points on it, though I'm guessing that there must be others who are.

If Microsoft invented a game whereby your gamerscore/points spending went towards unlocking attributes for your Avatar who could then be inserted into any game as a playable character, then... maybe.

E.g. if my avatar was a playable character in Battlefield Heroes, 10k gamerscore gets me extra health, 20k gamerscore gets me extra health and extra ammo, and I could spend 200 points to allow me to carry around an extra weapon or a parrot on my shoulder etc.
