Peter Jackson working on unique games for Xbox 360
MS and Peter Jackson have announced a partnership that will bring unique story-led experiences to the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.
The first title to come from the collaboration will be an extension of the Halo series, and is in addition to Halo 3 from Bungie and Halo Wars from Ensemble Studios. The second series of titles will be a brand new IP created by Jackson and screenwriter Fran Walsh. To aid development, a brand new studio, Wingnut Interactive, will be established, dedicated to creating interactive entertainment.
"Microsoft has built an amazing living canvas with Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, which allows the storytellers of our time to express themselves in a new medium. They have fundamentally changed how people think about games," Jackson said. "My vision, together with Microsoft Game Studios, is to push the boundaries of game development and the future of interactive entertainment. From a movie-maker's point of view, it is clear to me that the Xbox 360 platform is the stage where storytellers can work their craft in the same way they do today with movies and books but taking it further with interactivity."
In keeping with a theme that seemed to run throughout Microsoft's X06 media briefing, very little information on the games was revealed, but expect to hear more on Peter Jackson's titles in the near future.
