The Penny Arcade team has announced a new iOS app that serves as a way of discovering new games. The Decide-o-tron 8000 is being developed with help from games industry consultancy firm EEDAR and its founder, Geoff Zatkin.

"The Decide-O-Tron is essentially Pandora for games, that's about as clear as I can make it." Jerry Holkins (Tycho) explained on the Penny Arcade blog. "It can very quickly build a library of the games you like and own, and then - just as quickly - tell you what you should play next. It will be available for iOS devices, and it will be free."

"We spoke at Digipen a super long time ago with a guy named Geoff Zatkin who was clearly way smarter than us, but he didn't make us feel bad about it. We kept in touch with him, and eventually he opened a consultancy called EEDAR that almost certainly pops up in your feeds from time to time. Geoff asked us if we wanted to do something cool with their database, and we did! We made Decide-o-tron. Specifically, Erika headed it up; you'll know right away, because it looks beautiful."

The app will draw from 10,000 games, 45 million data points and a variety of consoles including PlayStation 3, PSP, PlayStation Network, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox LIVE Marketplace, Wii, Nintendo DS, DSi, 3DS, WiiWare, Virtual Console, GameCube, GameBoy Adv, and PC.

It'll also allow users to share wishlists with release notifications and browse celebrity playlists.

The Decide-o-tron 8000 is due for release in the next few weeks, with live demonstrations due at PAX, which begins August 26 in Seattle. More information can be found on the Decide-o-tron website, or alternatively you can follow the app on Twitter.
