Oculus Rift pre-orders are now open, confirming the launch price for the virtual reality headset to be £499 before shipping to UK consumers. With shipping the unit will set you back £529.

The US price is $599 before tax and shipping.

The device ships March 28 with the games EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky's Tale, a sensor, Oculus Remote, cables, and an Xbox One controller. Those who haven't already pre-ordered will need to wait a few more months, however, unless they happen to find a unit at select retail locations. Only an hour after pre-orders opened the shipping date for orders has changed from March for first wave to May.

With base "Oculus Ready PCs" priced at around $1000, this makes the all-in price to experience Rift something in the region of $1600.

Oculus has said that those who buy Rift will be first in line to buy the Touch controller when it ships in the latter half of the year. Those pre-ordering Rift are also free to cancel, with payment only taken when the device ships.

My thoughts too smackybumbum. But who cares if these other posts about making loads of money at home are true?

Yikes! You'll have to be a real dedicated early adopter at that price!

PS4 VR could clean up if it is priced reasonably!
