Aside from some nondescript puppies and a doctor rehearsed in improving brains, there have been no new Nintendo characters in some time, and other than the user created Miis, the Wii still has nothing comparable to the GameCube's Pikmin.

Speaking to The Mercury News, Nintendo's legendry game maker Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed there are to be no new Nintendo characters in the immediate future, hinting tantalisingly at possible developments next year.

Miyamoto said: "Maybe next year sometime, we may have new characters in the same way we came up with Pikmin when we introduced the GameCube."
