Update: The Nintendo NX will not run on the Android operating system from Google, Nintendo has confirmed to WSJ.
"There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX," said a Nintendo spokesperson.
Original report: The Nintendo NX, Nintendo's in development gaming platform, will run on Google's Android OS, a report in Japanese newspaper Nikkei has claimed.
Nintendo has recently said that an issue with the Wii U has been its system software and the inability for developers to easily bring titles to the platform. Choosing Android could open up development on the NX to a huge array of developers, large and small.
Besides this OS rumour we know very little about the NX. Nintendo has, however, said the system will make use of the new membership service created together with DeNA.
As for when we'll get more info on NX, Nintendo said it definitely won't talk about it at E3 or at any point in 2015.

With the move to an android based system, this would indicate a plan to incorporate portability of Nintendo software to other platforms with a similar architecture.
This has probably been spurred on by the devastating affect the Wii U has had on their bottom line.
What I want to know is what's the future of the DS. Will it remain in its current format or will it move to a more Nvidia Shield type device with the same os and similar capabilities as the NX.
