Legendary video game creator Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that Nintendo is working on new hardware, although didn't reveal any further details - Wii HD, Wii 2, DS 2, a new Game Boy?

Miyamoto was speaking at the 13th Annual Japan Media Arts Festival on Saturday.

Only last week VideoGamer.com heard on good authority that developers are already working on Nintendo's next hardware, with a reveal possible for GDC next month.

In addition to teasing the new hardware, Miyamoto also revealed he's working on a brand new game which utilises Wii MotionPlus.

I doubt very much they will spill the beans on what they doing. Suspect something at E3 this year. Maybe the new Zelda will feature on the new Nintendo console? Might as well ignite the speculation ideas.

So if they don't add HD output, what are they going to add? Fundamentally there's really only 5 parts of any piece of gaming hardware: Processing power, graphical power, storage, connectivity and a method of external control. All but the Wii-mote of which are bemoaned by the gaming masses.

So we can likely expect them to increase processing power and storage (both internal and removable media capacities and access times) without a doubt. And presumeably they'll likely add a more comprehensive motion control mechanism to counter what Sony and MS are doing; Probably work alongside the Wii-mote.

So that leaves us with faster, bigger games that look a smidgen better? Hell i'd be happy with that. Even If they just increase the storage mediums then at least they can start including a decent level of content in games instead of the 360/PS3 lite versions of everything that get produced at the moment.

Or they could just blow us off again stick with their 'mums & dads' format that secured them the dubious title of 'most successful console this gen'.

Though if you already have a Wii and weren't a gamer to begin with, have Nintendo done enough to get those people to buy another console, despite the current one still working fine for what they wanted it for? Have they really converted the 'non-gaming-massive'? Time will tell I suppose, we'll see what they do.
