Peter Molyneux, Lionhead founder and former Microsoft Game Studios Europe boss, believes Nintendo must really impress onlookers with the Wii U at E3.

"Nintendo's slightly lack lustre Wii U is going to have to blow us away with better specs and great 1st party line up," Molyneux told Kotaku following an announcement that he'll be offering analysis of E3 on Spike TV.

Of his former employer and its chief rival, Molyneux said: "Sony and Microsoft are holding their breath on next gen - interesting to see how they pad out another year. Price cuts, form factors?"

The Fable creator even went as far as to question the need for E3 altogether.

"Is the biggest news that E3 itself runs the risk of being outdated, or perhaps it already is?" he added. "The real challenge is how the players are going to adapt to the mounting pressure of Facebook, Apple, Social, Cloud, Multi-Gaming."

E3 kicks off in little more than two weeks.

This is the games industry. Apparently, the existence of anything renders the existence of everything else obsolete.

Former Leader of a Microsoft Xbox exclusive games developer is unimpressed with former competitors hardware.

Can't say I didn't see that coming, but everyone is open to their own opinion.

I don't understand so peoples ideas that mobile phone gaming will surpass console gaming. You pay more for bigger games in terms of content and budget on console, and you pay less for smaller games in content and budget on phones.

Why can't people for see a world where they coexist?

This generation of consoles is still thriving! Developers are still making games that don't even push the current machines to their limits. I realize that pretty much every developer out there is more concerned with pumping out "just good enough to pass" as to make the easy buck and that is how it will always be. There are however a very brave few, who once in a while, break away from the crowd and "WOW" us with some beautifully polished masterpiece. I want that to be the new trend, and I wish that enough gamers would lash out and say "Enough crap! Put your back into it!". If a new XBOX does come out and that system sees a new Fable title, for the love of God it better not suck! 3 was a joke. Who the hell wants to lead some jerk around town by the hand?! Why is that a selling point?!

Please make Better games before you make a shinier console, think of the men-children

I think any new console needs to really impress at E3 beacuse I certainly don't feel the need to move onto the next generation yet and will need to see more than social aps and marginally better graphics to get me interested - which is good as it will save me wasting my money on launch prices.
