xbox 360 slim real -

Microsoft has revealed that its next Xbox may well launch while the current Xbox 3660 is still doing well at retail, with a period of crossover while both consoles are on the market together.

"Well, we think we're more than halfway through but given we are still growing, we think we're at a healthy part in the life cycle still because we've pumped this adrenaline into the arm of the business with Kinect and the scope and scale of what that means for publishers and developers I think is huge," said Chris Lewis, vice president of Interactive Entertainment Division EMEA at Microsoft, speaking to the Metro.

"And indeed with Xbox LIVE which does truly stand us apart from everybody else. So we think we're a little over halfway with the life cycle of the console, but that's not to say there won't be an overlap..."

When pushed by the Metro Lewis explained that he could see an overlap happening.

"I'm not going to announce specifically or talk about timing. But you could imagine there could be overlap, it depends. We're not being specific about the next generation at this stage. We're very fixated on what we're doing right now and the success we're enjoying."

There's an element of the obvious to this, but it's not often senior execs at Microsoft actually mention the next-generation, let alone comment on it. It's not as if Microsoft would simply pull the Xbox 360 from the market the moment the new console hits - Sony has done well selling older consoles alongside its new hardware.
