We can expect three times the graphical horsepower over what has been shown of id's Rage.
Speaking during a keynote presentation at QuakeCon, id CEO Todd Hollenshead revealed that the next Doom game is in development and will utilise the impressive id Tech 5 engine.
Details on the new title are still scarce, but Hollenshead did confirm that Doom fans can look forward to the return of classic Doom elements: guns, blood, demons and gibs.
Some time later in the keynote id's John Carmack took to the stage and promised that the next Doom will "look like it's built on another engine" when compared to id's already impressive looking Rage. Although created using the same game engine, Carmack said Doom will use "three times the horsepower," made possible because of a 30 frames-per second target as apposed to Rage's 60 frames per second.
The next Doom game will be a multi-platform release, but PC gamers with a high-end rig can expect to see significant graphical benefits over the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. Carmack noted that "by the time that the next Doom game ships to consoles, PC will be light years ahead of current consoles."
