xbox 720 new -

An eBay listing for a supposed 'Xbox 720 Durango development kit' has been sold for $20,100.

The controversial listing (spotted by CVG) attracted 43 bids before closing early, and did not list any details about the the product. The only description included was that the kit came with "power cables and a wired controller'.

SuperDae, the listed seller, is the same person responsible for the recent image leaks of the Durango development kit, including Kinect 2 images which were leaked late last week.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

There is still no confirmation that this auction is genuine, and it would be very surprising if Microsoft would allow this sale to take place.

It's got to be fake.

It must be a fake - there is no way Microsoft would allow anything like this to occur. Hardware companies retain ownership of any sucy dev kit units, and coupled with NDAs, would mean mega-trouble for the seller if remotely true.

Personally, I suspect someone built a $800 PC to the rumoured specs, and sold it for in excess of 2000% profit! :p

It might be someone who is a...

1. A collector and has that sort of money or even a videogame museum.

2. An investment for someone who might be able to loan out the equipment possibly, giving smaller videogame makers a chance to create games earlier, giving them a head start with their rivals.

Edit:
Just had a look at the listing and I think the seller has zero feedback!!!

Well dodgy to be selling an item like that with zero feedback. Just as well there is a buyers gurantee with Paypal.

Who actually bought it the thing is my question? I don't understand what you would do with a dev kit if weren't dev, in the long term. Sure you could take it apart and leak the specs, but I can't see what else you would do with it. Or at least anything you would with it that is worth 20k dollars anyway.
