New Xbox beats PS3 slim

Launch week sales higher than PS3 Slim and PS2 Slim.

GfK ChartTrack reports that Microsoft's slimmer Xbox 360 (Xbox 360 S) achieved the biggest launch in the UK for a revised home console, surpassing the launches of both the PS2 Slim and PS3 Slim.

On sale for two days, the Xbox 360 S shifted around the same number of units as the original Xbox 360's launch sales back in 2005.

The Xbox 360 S is priced £199.99 and is available now.

Hmm, fair enough. Though he's an analyst for a pretty big securities firm, you generally don't get that kind of job by being sh*t. Of course he does appear to get it quite wrong a good few times, but I'm sure the ones he gets right aren't always that well publicised. He's probably very wealthy as well and all he does is talk about the video games industry, basically his job is awesome.

Well his numbers are based on NPD who get their numbers from a sample of retailers across N.America, all he has done is basically announce the results.

They announce the numbers shipped in financial statements, but generally don't go in to that much detail.

Sounds like the article is saying Old Pro models were being reduced to clear. Surplus stock?

Anyway, source is Patcher, who is an idiot anyway, so who knows?!

All I know is that the Slim has sold huge amounts, doesn't matter who sold more really, different Market conditions, times of the year etc. As long as they all sell loads then gaming is the winner!

I say not. If the launch is to be believed as good as the 2005 launch here in the UK it's 70,000 units here alone which would equate to 15.5% of total 360's sold in US in June. Over the 2 days. The US launch had a similar success story Selling out all over the country. I'll wait for the official MS breakdown.

Exactly Patcher. Case rested as the breakdown would have to come from MS. The biggest balls up of the whole article though is the rest of the sales coming from Pro and Elite consoles. The PRO? It's been discontinued since August last year.

Looks like Wes has gone to the dogs since leaving VG towers.

Proof? As every article I've read suggests its the slim that's sold out across the US.

Yeah the uptake has been pretty amazing for it, though as I said previously the PS3 slim probably attracted more new customers while the 360 probably had more customers upgrading older models.

We were talking about the PS3.

Though interestingly enough, in America the new model accounted for only 40% of the increase of 360 sales. The discounted older models made up the rest.
