When the Wii goes on sale in North America, there will be a selection at least 12 Virtual Console titles available to purchase. These include classics from previous generations, such as Donkey Kong for the NES, SimCity on the SNES, and Super Mario 64 for the N64. Gamers will also be able to download the Sega Mega Drive version of Sonic the Hedgehog from and Bomberman '93 for the TurboGrafx16.

In addition, Nintendo will be updating the available Virtual Console with a new batch of titles on each Monday following launch, and aims to have more than 30 games available before the year end.

Gamers can purchase the games using Wii Points: NES games start at 500 Wii Points, Super NES games start at 800 Wii Points and Nintendo 64 games start at 1,000 Wii Points. Sega Genesis games start at 800 Wii Points and TurboGrafx16 games start at 600 Wii Points.

Interestingly, Nintendo is now stating prices "start at" a set value, meaning there's a chance games will cost more than the minimum.

Before the end of December, the following titles will be available in North America:

NES: Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Ice Hockey, Pinball, Soccer, Tennis, Urban Champion, Wario's Woods, Baseball, and Solomon's Key.
SNES: F-Zero, and SimCity.
N64: Super Mario 64.
Sega Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Columns, Ecco the Dolphin, Gunstar Heroes, Space Harrier II, Toe Jam & Earl, Ristar, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
TurboGrafx16: Bonk's Adventure, Super Star Soldier, Victory Run, Bomberman '93, and Dungeon Explorer.
