New Wii game engine promises PS3 visuals
Quantum3 engine claims to be the most powerful in the industry.
High Voltage Software is hoping to change the face of Wii video games, with its new Quantum3 engine, which is claimed to enable Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 visuals on the tiny Wii console.
Quantum3 is the result of 15 years development experience and enables developers to make use of advanced graphical features, including better dynamic bump mapping, light effects, glossing and other visual improvements. Additionally, Quantum3 uses a 16 TEV stage material pipeline that can blend up to 8 separate texture sources.
The engine also uses advanced processing techniques to make gameplay smoother, examples including seamless resource streaming, projected shadows, morphing and much more.
"The Wii platform is capable of a lot more than what consumers have seen so far. We're hoping to raise a new bar," said High Voltage Software CEO Kerry Ganofsky.
The first title from High Voltage to use the new Quantum3 engine is first-person shooter The Conduit. The developer is aiming to create a game that looks like an Xbox 360 and PS3 game. You can decide for yourself if the new engine is up to the task by checking the tech demo here.

As for you anti-wii guys why the f**k did you bother posting here in the first place? Nothing better to do? Get a life.
As for informer, you're just full of sh*t dude, lol.

its all about how much is going on onscreen, nothing else. wii has fantastic pixel shaders and bloom lighting and advanced mapping and bumpmapping.
just wait and you will see. x

I'm not sure they would suit the Wii. The feel of it and the graphics are perfect... Part of the problem nowadays is too much focus on looks rather than gameplay.
I mean, who would want Mario Kart or Galaxy looking any different??
It doesn't matter....
Karlius
The GameCube was of this eira and was far more graphically adapt than the other consoles so if a company has been working 8 or so years to exploit every loophole and hardware plus in a console then i am sure they will come out with something good and push the boundries of what we have seen on the wii.
I do however think they will be release console quality such as Perfect Dark Zero on the 360 OR Resistance on the PS3.

Dang it Nintendo, why are you denying me?

That makes sense as they wouldn't get away with that kind of business practice if they were. Your analogy stinks - Epic and Nintendo make games not yogurt.
Bashir
Epic is a private company. It is not publicly held. Also, different companies find different niches in the industry, and that is to be applauded. Epic has determined that it's skill set supports the development of high-end technology pushing software, and it's doing very well in that. The mere fact that there is money to be made in other types of software, does not mean that they are doing something wrong by not jumping into that market.
Nintendo makes a lot of money making Wii's and DS's, but they do not make Frozen Yogurt, even though that is a very profitable industry right now. Should their shareholders be pissed?

They obviously don't mean that the engine can match the top end PS3 games. That would just be silly...

Wii producing PS3 visuals? Yeah ... right

Ever heard of mass market? The user base of the Wii is huge and keeps growing = potential $1,000,000s. They sell this engine or make a decent game themselves and the cash will be rolling in.
Creating this engine is good business sense as opposed to an Epic fail - If I was a shareholder of Epic and heard that it was ignoring the most successful console of this generation I'd be seriously pissed.
