Police Warfare, the next Kickstarter project to hit the headlines, is a multiplayer experience from developers behind a host of the biggest games of this generation.

The game draws inspiration from large-scale multiplayer titles such as Battlefield 3, and adds the cops and robbers element from Grand Theft Auto and acclaimed action movie Heat.

Players will go toe-to-toe as either a member of the Los Angeles Police SWAT team, or the opposite side of the law, robbing banks as an armed gunman.

"There are a lot of shooters out there focusing on modern military conflicts and we want to bring things in a new direction, something fresh and different, draw the focus of a conflict closer to home with a different type of enemy," explained the Kickstarter page. "We're building a game similar to Battlefield 1943 in that it's a small but extremely high quality shooter built for digital download.

"Our focus is crafting a big experience in a small package, a bite-sized AAA if you will. Something that you can pick up and play for just a few minutes and have the same great experience as if you're sinking hundreds of hours into it."

We're promised "gorgeous visuals, punchy sound design, and fluid controls".

The team involved in creating Police Warfare have worked on games such as Far Cry 3, Gears Of War, Crysis 1/2, Assassin's Creed 2, Medal Of Honor: Airborne, Golden Eye, Killzone 2 and Grand Theft Auto 4.

And joining the developers are real law enforcement advisers to provide tactical expertise, resources and knowledge.

The game has been in development for eight months as a self-funded project and now it needs at least $325,000 from Kickstarter in order to reach completion.

A $15 pledge rewards you with: "Finished game via digital download for PC + Access to the multiplayer beta including access to the backer-only discussion boards where fans will have the chance to vote on features, weapons and in-game rewards + Exclusive sneak peak for artwork and progress + Your name in the game credits."

The estimated delivery date is October 2013.

Yes! This seems to have some great potential. The concept is pretty solid, so I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this.
