Last night Apple announced the latest refresh of its iPod product line, with improved gaming performance one of the key new features.

The new 32GB and 64GB iPod Touch models promise performance improvements of up to 50 per cent, plus support for OpenGL ES 2.0 - just like the iPhone 3Gs.

Apple says all this "lets developers create games with superior graphics. So games launch noticeably faster, and you experience richer, more lifelike textures and detail."

The new units are available right now, priced £229 and £299 for the 32GB and 64GB models respectively.

So, is this improvement only for the new models? If so then great news for those people who have a current model.

I sometimes think I'm the only person in the world who doesn't own an iPod.
