Titles built specifically for the Wii and sold via the Wii Shop Channel for Wii Points.
Newsweek's N'Gai Croal has got the scoop on Nintendo's plans to offer newly created downloadable Wii titles, in a similar fashion to what we've already seen on Xbox LIVE Arcade and PSN.
Having met with Nintendo of America president Reginald Fils-Aime, Croal learned that the new service, titled WiiWare, will not only seek games from well-known developers but also from indie developers. We're talking short, original and more creative games created by small teams with big ideas.
Each title released on WiiWare will not be vetted by Nintendo, with a software rating the responsibility of the developer/publisher. Nintendo will only check the games for bugs and compatibility. Nintendo will, however, decide the price of each title.
The first titles are expected to appear in 2008, and look out for a full announcement from Nintendo shortly.
