Believes Xbox 360 will outsell PS3 in 2010.

xbox 360 elite -

Microsoft's director of product management for Xbox 360, Aaron Greenberg, has said he believes the Xbox 360 has what it takes to outsell the PS3 in 2010, although admits Sony isn't going to make it easy.

"We've got triple-A exclusive blockbusters month after month this year. We had a great January - we outsold the PS3 by a pretty solid margin. We believe we will outsell the PS3 for the full year. We did in 2009," Greenberg told Destructoid.

"Today, according to NPD we have roughly double the install base [of PS3]," he added. "We never underestimate our competition. We know they have a lot of great games. They are very formidable, they have a great history in this industry, but we believe that if you are a gamer and you want great games, we have more titles, we have more exclusives and we have the leading online community.

"And then being able to bring really completely innovative technology like Project Natal to market this holiday are all things that make us unique."

It looks set to be a tricky period for Microsoft and the Xbox 360, though. Sony has PS3 exclusives Heavy Rain and God of War 3 ready to help drive sales of its console, while Microsoft must wait until May's Halo: Reach Beta and Alan Wake to retaliate.

VGChartz show the Xbox360 at 21.95m, and the PS3 at 12.86m. That is pretty close to being 'roughly double'?

To be honest I don't see how a number can say "this game is a triple A game". Surely, it comes down to your own personal choices. I still rate the recently Turok game to be very good. The game got mixed reviews and some very harsh reviews as well which I totally disagree.

Without exclusives, I wouldn't get that thrill with videogames.

"we have more exclusives"
more doesnt mean anything, its about the quality.
"more" would only matter if you were to run out of games on ps3 but who actually has? no-one.

"Today, according to NPD we have roughly double the install base [of PS3],"
im certain he didnt count the banned and dead xbox's.

This is the problem, people dont see Pc as a platform, im sorry but in most ocastions its the stronger platform.

Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age (dont even play that on console)
Bad Company 2

I could go on

the 95% maybe a bit harsh id say games like gears halo killzone LBP are AAA titles but hi ho

No FM, I don't think your 95% average too strict at all.

The term Triple-A should be reserved for the select few which are capable of such high ratings. So considering the terms exclusive & blockbuster are part of the formula, the 3 games listed justify your criteria. They all stand out on their respective platforms.

As for who 'wins' in 2010 in sales, I couldn't care less. I don't own a 360, and Wii doesn't interest me at all. So, until I can afford the time and money to own a PS3 & 360, I'm content knowing that I can get the best out of my current system. All platforms will do well. If an honest measure of the terms used such as above determine any one platforms' success, then it is deserved and well done. If people want to believe the hype then so be it.

If people are going to start throwing 'Triple-A exclusive blockbuster' descriptions around we need a definition. Unfortunately, none of these three terms has ever been defined adequately when it comes to videogaming, which is pretty neat for those who like to throw such descriptions around.

My official definition would be:

Triple-A: 95%+ Metacritic/Gamerankings average.
Exclusive: Only on one platform.
Blockbuster: High expectations of sales/popularity.

Using this definition (I used Gamerankings, Metacritic has succumbed to a 503 Error again):

There have only ever been 28 Triple-A titles.
Only 20 of those remain exclusive to this day.

Three big notables for current gen that meet this criteria:

Uncharted 2 (PS3)
Mass Effect 2 (360)
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)

In fact, these are the only three games so far that meet this criteria for modern consoles. Maybe my 95% average is a little too strict.

P.S. Just remembered Mass Effect 2 is on PC, so now we're down to just 2!

So both have a promising new IP and the latest in a long line of traditionally very well received franchises.

God of War III also comes out in March, with Heavy Rain coming out days before.

Actually MS doesn't have to wait until May. Splinter Cell: Conviction releases in April and Metro 2033 releases March 16th. While Metro 2033 isn't a well known exclusive, it does look good and seems to have an interesting story imo.
