Subscription rates are blowing minds.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz at a recent Xbox launch event in London, Neil Thompson, regional director for Northern Europe, revealed the uptake to Sky Player on Xbox 360 has been mind blowing.

"We were blown away - literally - by the response we had, and we took some flak, probably fairly. We didn't scale to quite the scale we should have, and I take that criticism on board and we've learned from it," said Thompson. "But now it's up and running, people are loving it, the subscription rates, the download rates for the application and so on are just blowing my mind away, they're blowing the people at Sky's minds away."

"It's proving incredible popular," he added. "It is a phenomenal success at this point."

Thing is though, it actually has a good use. Lots of people (like me) live in flats and others live in listed buildings, and we can't put a dish up. Sky Player is the only way we can watch Sky if we want to.

Obviously it doesn't offer the choice that the main Sky thing would, but as long as I can watch the footy, cricket and the like then I am happy.

I'm sorry, but if you are happy using 360 as a DVD player then you've never used a half decent player(and don't own a PS3).The picture quality is poor. You also run a higher risk of failure using it more.I use mine for games like L4D2 but for media my PS3 is so much better.

MS: Sky on 360 is a 'phenomenal success'

Maybe because someone was dumb enough to buy this service.

Glad to see it's doing well after the initial problems. I'm using one of my 360's as a second Skybox, it works incredibly well and being able to choose any movie or program shown during the last month, means it's an improvement over my actual Sky Box!

Sorry strickers66 but I have to disagree I think the 360 is great to use as a media unit I play my dvds on mine with no problems what so ever and I use last fm alot aswell although I do admit my first 360 did used to make alot of noise but my elite is fine.
I haven't tried Sky yet I'm just not willing to pay the amount there asking.

The world is full of idiots.Take unreliable console, overpriced tv subs service with poor quality and you get sky on 360.In my experience the 360 should stick to games like the amazing L4D2 because it's lousy at most media.Noisy, ugly DVD playback and my early version has a nigh on unusable toslink.
