Phased approach will ensure 'consumers experience a high quality experience'.

Following a problematic launch of Sky Player on Xbox 360, which saw the service removed, Microsoft has today confirmed that a phased rollout will continue, ensuring a high quality service for all consumers.

"As you may know, we have been experiencing some technical issues with the Sky Player on Xbox 360 since launch last Tuesday morning. It is important to both Sky and Xbox that we give customers as much information as possible about why the service is not working and when we expect this to be resolved," read a statement posted by Xbox EMEA Community Manager Graeme 'Aceybongos' Boyd on the official Xbox forums.

"As we said last week, some customers have been unable to experience full use of the service due to the initial demand for the service at launch, when so many people tried to access the service all at the same time.

"Right now we are implementing a revised rollout which will see Sky Player become available to all Xbox 360 customers gradually. While unfortunately some customers do not have access to the service, tens of thousands more will be added each day, until the service is available to all."

The statement concluded: "We are taking this phased approach to ensure that consumers experience a high-quality experience. The Sky team has contacted the affected Sky Player TV subscribers on Xbox directly with further updates."

At the price they are charging you'd be better just getting an extra box. I think it's over-priced and should be free to anyone with a Sky sub.

On the live stuff no, but the on demand stuff would be freeview quality. Wouldn't say it's as good as Sky SD as I watched the first half in the room with Sky SD then the second half in the room with Sky HD. It is like an excellent internet stream when you watch it on the likes of iraqgoals.net. You just can always tell it was like watching something over the internet, it's all just a little bolcky. Over time it will hopefuly get better.

I'd say the picture quality is worse than Sky's standard SD picture, but slightly better than ITV's SD footy coverage. It's also miles better than footy I've watched over the internetz (p2p and alike).

The quality wasn't great though, but I can live with that. Even in "High Quality" it was noticeably worse than normal TV.

I watched the Arsenal v Spurs game on it last Saturday. On one or two occasions the picture became pixelated but on the whole it ran like a dream (as did the game! :D) for me.

I just wish more of my friends had the SkyPlayer now so we could group watch footy matches together.

My only real complaint about the player would be the lack of quality 'on demand' content. Needs MOAR now!

I was gonna watch it in my room but I'll have to go downstairs now and throw my sister out in to the room my parents are in so I can watch it in peace.

Trying to watch the build up to the United match now, almost impossible. This could have been a brilliant feature but I can't even get to watch it without it stopping even in "Medium Quality".

The Spurs match on Saturday wasn't this bad for the most part, maybe having to buffer every few minutes.
