Microsoft creative director Adam Orth is believed to have resigned from his position following last week's public backing for always-on devices on Twitter.

GameInformer has heard from sources close to the matter than Orth is no longer at Microsoft, and a call to Microsoft's switchboard apparently confirmed this. It's not clear if Orth left voluntarily or was forced out.

Following Orth's Twitter comments Microsoft issued the following statement:

"We apologize for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers. We are very sorry if this offended anyone, however we have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."

Overnight, further rumours indicated that while the next generation Xbox will be always connected, this won't be a requirement for playing software.
