Microsoft will reveal a new Windows 8 tablet to rival the iPad on Monday, a source has told The Wrap.

The secretive device will run Windows RT, a tablet-specific version of Windows 8 with its own Windows Store – similar to how iOS devices use the App Store.

It also seems likely that the new tablet will be heavily involved in Microsoft's roll-out of supportive screen technology SmartGlass, set to launch this autumn.

The reveal is expected to take place at 11.30pm BST, Monday, June 18.

If they try to convince me that the tablet can be enhanced by controlling it via a second screen I'll know the world has finally gone crazy.

Cool. This should work nicely with my Lumia 800 Windows Phone and my Windows 8 PC. If it doesn't then I probably won't bother.

They have stated quite explicitly that the Smart Glass function will work on devices you already own.

I get the feeling that smart glass may be a a Microsoft product only function unfortunately.
I mean announcing the feature and then announcing the tablet that works with it a or so week later doesn't really help prove otherwise...
