Will feature the best first-party games from the Mega Drive, plus bonus content from the Master System and 80's arcade.
SEGA has today announced the development of SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The compilation will feature the best first-party games from SEGA's 16-bit Mega Drive years, as well as bonus content from its 8-bit Master System and 1980's arcade era games library.
"SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection is a must-have for any SEGA enthusiast," commented Gary Knight, European marketing director for SEGA Europe. "Fans will get a chance to relive fond memories from these classic games in HD format."
Over 40 games will be available in the compilation, including Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3, Columns, Alien Storm, Ecco the Dolphin, Space Harrier, and Streets of Rage 1, 2 and 3. All games will also be playable in 720p with higher resolution graphics.
SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection is scheduled for release on Xbox 360 and PS3 early in 2009.

Personally I'm excited, Shining Force, Phantasy Star and Ecco are all there, plus we can all get to relive Green Zone in the original Sonic. Great idea, thanks to SEGA.
Wonder if they'll include 40,000/40,000 Achievements?

Bold titles are pure win. The rest are mostly good, too!

Also, bold Kid Chameleon, that game is utter, utter win, the best of the lot of them.

Best compilation of games, ever?

Yeah, me too. It's the addition of the Streets of Rage and Shining Force games which has really got my attention. I'll probably pick this up, although since I'll only *really* be getting it for a handful of games that weren't on the last instalment I'll wait until it's £15 or less.

Also, it seems the BBFC revealed that there are 9 unlockable games on the disc, as well as 30 minutes of video interviews and 45 minutes of game footage. It is known that one of the bouns unlockable games is the original Phantasy Star, as a SEGA press release stated that the entire series is on the disc, along with an unreleased version of Space Harrier.
Personally, I'm hoping for Gunstar Heroes and Landstalker. Whilst Revenge of Shinobi would be nice, it's not going to happen.
Finally, why no Wii version? Surely this would be an ideal release? I know that VC has many of these titles, but there are plenty of Wii owners out there who don't buy them.
