Mark Wahlberg to star as Max Payne

Live Action adaptation of Rockstar's action title to begin shooting early next year.

The live-action motion picture based on Rockstar Games' Max Payne, the title which brought the concept of bullet time into the world of video games, looks set to star Mark Wahlberg as the title character.

According to Variety, Wahlberg is currently in negotiations to play the role of Max Payne, a cop haunted by the loss of his family. The actor, whose recent hits include The Shooter and The Departed, will be able to begin work on the film after completing The Lovely Bones for Peter Jackson and DreamWorks.

John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines, Flight of the Phoenix) is set to direct.
