Kudo Tsunoda defends Kinect pricing
Unlike the competition, 'you only have to buy one sensor'.
Face of Kinect, Xbox general manager Kudo Tsunoda, has defended the price of Kinect when compared to PlayStation Move, telling VideoGamer.com that for Kinect you just buy the one sensor.
Asked at gamescom last week how Microsoft plans to convince gamers to buy Kinect at £130 when PlayStation Move can be bought for £50, Tsunoda said: "First of all, what I think is the best thing about games and should get people to go and buy things is, Kinect is super fun and it's very unique and different than what you see on any other console. The whole body tracking, that just enables experiences you can't get anywhere else."
He continued: "There's a reason we can do things like track and field and football, because we are doing whole body tracking versus something that is only tracking a few points. I think that's just a big difference in the experience. Plus all of the voice technology and human recognition system is all stuff you can't get anywhere else. Xbox also does a great job of not only providing great games, but movies and TV and music and things like that which really provide more fun type experiences for all different types of people."
Speaking more directly about pricing, Tsunoda added: "As far as the cost goes. I think the great thing about Kinect is you only have to buy one sensor. Once you buy the sensor that enables all the experience, it enables all the multiplayer that you want to do.
"It's not like OK, oh wait I want to play with more people, I have to go out and buy more controllers. Oh wait, here comes a new driving game, here's a new peripheral. And all of a sudden you're spending so much money on extra controllers, peripherals, batteries, all those kinds of things. And with Kinect you just buy one sensor and then you're done."
Kinect will launch in the UK on November 10. Catch the full interview with Kudo right here.
