Blueside and Phantagram to bring action RTS sequel to PC and console platforms.
Blueside has today announced it has teamed up with Phantagram to co-develop Kingdom Under Fire II, a true sequel to the award-winning Kingdom Under Fire: Crusaders and Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes.
Kingdom Under Fire II promises a storyline which continues on the Bersian content and will feature a new third faction vying for control of the world: Human Alliance, Dark Legion and a new mystery force.
The game will feature both a rich campaign mode plus a new massively multiplayer online game where thousands of gamers can play together.
Blueside's CEO Sejung Kim believes the game will be something special, stating: "We are preparing for an immense game that will feature not only field battles, but also titanic siege engines and thousands of units that will swarm over monstrous fortresses in siege battles of epic proportions."
Expect more information further down the line. For now head over to the screens page for a first glimpse at what to expect.

If they can do it for FFXI there's no reason (other than Blizzard refusing to make a console version) that WoW couldn't translate just as well, albeit because of the the GUI customisation features specific to WoW it would probably mean consoles would have to have separate servers to PC players. Most other mmorpgs could port to console and be played cross-platform, from a gamer's point of view it's just a case of having the will to retrain existing motorskills to adapt to the new control mechanism.
I'd agree with RTS, there's yet to be a decent control system for consoles, although EA's Battle for Middle Earth was pretty good once you got used to it, still a bit clunky though.
What baffles me about KUFII though is how they're going to adapt an RTS for mmorpg. I've got a feeling it'll be a cop out along the lines of Phantasy Star Universe where you can cram 1000s of players into a lobby but when it comes to gameplay it'll restrict you to 3 vs 3 controlling and coordinating their units on one map or something, which is about as mmorpg as Monopoly. Either that or the cynic in me thinks they'll just do the mmorpg part for the PCs and leave the console version as pure RTS.
What excites me about it is a developer looking at mmorpgs for a console in the first place. It's a seriously untapped marketplace with huge potential, but I can see why it's untapped - compared to PCs consoles have a limited lifespan, whereas mmorpgs take 3-5 years to make so there's a chance they'll launch just as a new generation of consoles comes along. The flipside might be that a decent mmorpg might extend a console's lifespan, probably loads of USA players still using the PS2 for EQOA despite the fact it'll also run on a PS3. Plus backwards compatibility is changing things, PSO would probably still be around to day and still taking subscriptions if the Dreamcast 2 with backwards compatibility ever saw the light of day.
All it needs is one developer to take the risk and produce a console "Evercrack" and the genre should kick off bigtime as other publishers see the subscriptions roll in and jump on the bandwagon.
I'm surprised Microsoft aren't working on something wickedly addictive in the mmorpg genre to get more people hooked on Live, but I guess COD4 and Halo3 are doing the job for them.
