According to the latest report by the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA) the total revenue of the Japanese videogame industry fell by almost 20 percent. This fall of 19.8 percent was mainly due to a substantial decrease in hardware income, which fell by 37.4 percent. The release of the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP came too late in the year to influence the year's overall numbers.
Software sales in Japan were actually up by 2 percent over 2003 and the market as a whole is set to improve with the release of new hardware and games in 2005, with sales from the DS, PSP, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and possibly the Nintendo Revolution.
