Official announcement to come at a press event in the first week of March, claim sources.

ipad -

Apple will launch the iPad 3 in mid March, following a press event unveiling the new tablet in the first week of the month, sources have told AllThingsD.

The launch event is likely to be held in San Francisco, at Apple's go-to Yerba Buena Center.

Apple typically chooses a street date of around a week after the official announcement, so somewhere close to mid-March seems likely.

The sources also back up previous reports relating to the specification of the new device: a faster CPU complete with an improved graphics processing unit, and a 2048×1536 Retina Display.

Apple has declined to comment.

Never been an Apple fan, but perhaps I SHOULD get one. My current tablet is made out of bread... and I'm out of butter. (Or I guess I could always save some money and just go buy some butter...)

The same could be said of mobile phones, laptops and to a lesser extent desktop PCs though. In fact technology moves so fast these days it's almost not worth worrying about.

I would agree tablets are progressing the fastest at the moment though, the speed at which the specifications are increasing is ridiculous,

So that hype overpowers reason and no-one has enough time to find out what they've left out this time ;)
