Hit PlayStation 2 games GTA 3 and GTA Vice City have been rated for the PlayStation 3 by the ESRB. The listings suggest the two classic open-world titles will be arriving on PSN as PS2 Classics.

Grand Theft Auto III launched on the PlayStation 2 back in October 2001, with GTA Vice City hitting the console a year later. San Andreas, the third biggest selling game of all time, hasn't been listed.

I just meant that if they were to rip the San Andreas script out and slot it into 5, without having to do lots of work to make it all fit. Then, the map would need to be the same so that all the characters and mission points would fit.

Alternatively, they could rebuild San Andreas and shift it all about for a new map.

Either way would be cool and this is obviously just a hopeful dream right now. But, it's an exciting idea.

I'm crossing my fingers for San Andreas DLC, too. But why does the map have to look exactly the same? Liberty City was way different in GTA III as in IV.

Should add that I was clearly asleep this morning. It's GTA 3 and Vice City that appear to be coming to PSN - San Andreas isn't listed.

Ive been trying to play San Andreas again on Xbox after downloading it and it has not aged well, don't know if it's just a bad port or what but looks terrible and controls r terrible, still the best game of that gen though and the Series so far. Rockstar need to get on with more GTA 5 news now the max Payne release and hype is finished.

That reminds me - I picked up the Xbox trilogy a few years back (backwards compatability with the 360 for the games), and never finished San Andreas... might revisit that later this week.

I'm still hoping, however unlikely that it is, that GTA5 DLC will be the entire San Andreas campaign in the new engine. It's unlikely as it would mean the map would have to be exactly the same. But, it would be a VERY cool DLC pack.

Hmmm, being a bit of a Rockstar/GTA fanboy this is great news. But, I would rather see the high res PC versions ported over, rather than the PS2 versions that suffer from pretty heavy pop-up and much lower texture resolution.

If any games warranted an HD trilogy release, then surely this was them.

Why no Vice City? :(
