It had been thought that the Gizmondo's launch in the US would be delayed, but it has now been confirmed that the multimedia handheld will launch on October 22nd in the US.
"Contrary to rumours in the marketplace we are not delaying the scheduled USA launch, we are committed to the October 22, 2005 release date, and the product will be available in all 50 states well in advance of the Christmas retail season," said Carl Freer, co-founder and Chairman, Tiger Telematics.
Here in the UK the Gizmondo's retail presence continues to grow with two more retailers now stocking the handheld. Both Play.com and Maplin have joined the Gizmondo bandwagon, with the release of the new Sat Nav package being cited as a reason for growing demand of the handheld.
Only a few weeks ago Tiger announced an all new Gizmondo Widescreen for release in 2006 as an accompaniment to the current Gizmondo. Boasting a screen comparable to the PSP it looks promising, but only time will tell if the Gizmondo brand is strong enough to support the two handhelds.
