Microsoft has announced that Gears of War has sold two million units since release.
In the six weeks following the game's release, Gears of War has sold more than two million units worldwide. This makes Gears the fastest-selling next-gen game of 2006 and the fastest-selling exclusive Xbox game of all time.
"We've always held high hopes for 'Gears of War,' but we never expected such an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and gamers all over the world," said Michael Capps, president, Epic Games. "I can't describe how stoked our team is right now. Our fans can absolutely count on Epic to keep delivering new gameplay through Xbox Live."
It's no surprise that Gears of War is selling well; the game had been building up hype since its first appearance, and has been backed by a strong ad campaign and good word of mouth.
The game continues to dominate on Xbox Live too, with more than one million unique gamers having taken part in ten million gameplay sessions. Gears has also driven new members to Xbox Live, with paid registrations up by 50% since the game hit stores.
