Gameloft cutting back Android investment
Other developers doing the same.
According to leading mobile game publisher Gameloft, significant cuts have been made to its investment on Google's Android platform, a move shared by many other developers.
"We have significantly cut our investment in Android platform, just like ... many others," Gameloft finance director Alexandre de Rochefort said at an investor conference.
Rochefort explained that the platform's application store was vastly inferior to Apple's, something which has played a huge role in application uptake on iDevices.
"It is not as neatly done as on the iPhone. Google has not been very good to entice customers to actually buy products. On Android nobody is making significant revenue," Rochefort said.
The Gameloft director also revealed the publisher is "selling 400 times more games on iPhone than on Android," which goes a long way to explain the cutbacks.

And yeah the Android Marketplace itself doesn't have much being barely a year old, but as Android is open source there are any number of other sites to look at for Android Apps, such as http://www.androlib.com/
It's only a matter of time. There HAS to be another app store other than Apples because the iPhone will never be mainstream, just as Macs and OS X will never be mainstream, because Apple don't want to sell things that are affordable. They want to keep their premium-hardware-prison intact and thus only people with the extra money or that care less about having their experiences controlled by Apple will adopt. So Android is, I think, where those of us free from Apple's walled-garden will likely end up.
It would be useful if there were more restrictions on hardware specs for Android so that higher quality apps could be developed and developers be sure who can and can't run them. But Android is still very much in it's infancy and you can bet Google won't let it die in a heap, thats for sure.
I secretly love the fact that Apple hates the way the iPhone/Ipod Touch has been adopted as a gaming platform :D
