Game Retail has announced plans to drop the Gamestation brand, according to an online report.

The move will see all of Gamestation's 122 stores rebranded to operate under the GAME label, MCV claims.

It's not yet known when the changes will be rolled out.

MCV claims that the announcement was made during the GAME Conference today.

VideoGamer.com has also learned that staff were informed of the decision to rebrand stores earlier this week.

Gamestation was founded in York in 1993, before being acquired by Blockbuster in 2002. Blockbuster later sold the brand to The GAME Group in mid-2007.

Numerous Gamestation stores were closed following the announcement that The GAME Group had entered administration in March.

Expect more information on GAME and Gamestation's future next week.

We still have to remember and it seems to be quite a huge point that the customer service will stay the same, just because they now have to wear a pink shirt doesn't mean they are going to be turned into the GAME robot. I go to my local Gamestation because they will tell me if a game is ***** or not, but if I went to a GAME store I know that I will just get the scripted nonsense that they have been told to read to us and they constant garble on how they can up sell me something else which would "advance" my game-play. I adore the people in my local Gamestation and re-branded or not I will still shop there be it in store or through their online service (which is also in store and you can get products for online prices)

Bad move tbh, gamestation is a game store that you feel is ran by gamers like you, they are happy to engage you with a smile and will chat about games or infact anything, their deals are better and ok their trade ins are not fantastic but they are much better than GAME. i cannot say that ive ever enjoyed buying anything in GAME or even just browsing the stores as the staff come across that just dont want to be there and they dont want you there either and would sooner take your money and kick you out rather than have a coversation with you also the "deals" that they have had dont compare atall alot of their games are overpriced, and their trade model is patheticly laughable, thats why i now refuse to shop there. OK they will probably keep alot of the gamestation staff but i know for a fact there are alot more rules in GAME that restrict the staff from providing the same level of customer service that they give in gamestation. Now gamestation is going my custom will be going to amazon and play.

Have both reward schemes (though not sure where my GAME card is as I don't have a store near me any more so never use it).

But I havr £21 of reward points and £50 credit on a gift card to use for the Wii U. If they don't rebrand before the Wii U launch I'll be fine.

Wish they would get rid of GAME and keep Gamestation, at least they had personality.

Been heading this way for a long time pricing has been pretty much in line other than the occasional offer or two. OpCapita just had to decide which arm to stick with. Either the higher end game stores or the ones that stank of BO. Don't think it was a difficult choice in the end.

About time they done this to be honest. Regarding the Elite membership, GAME tweeted that they will post more details about that nearer the time or something. Probably be a free transfer over to the GAME reward scheme.

I know with Game, you can only use Reward points online, trade-in credit can apparently only be redeemed in-store. Where prices are higher (of course).

I spent ages trying to use my £10 credit with them and I just gave up in the end because their website was just a joke. Utterly worthless retailer and it contributed absolutely nothing to the landscape of UK games retail.

Do you have a lot of credit with them then pblive?

I only have a quid I think with their card and I don't think there are any more in Cardiff.

Just need to find out whether they change before the Wii U comes out and what to do with my points if they do.

Expected - but i am surprised they held out this long. I would have thought the most logical time would have been during the whole 'lets declare ourselves faux-bankrupt to rip off investors, and start afresh, lols' situation.

Makes sense from a business standpoint.

I never realised they were the same company now, thought they were rivals, would explain y game is still in my town but gamestation got closed down even though the latter was more popular.
