Having launched just two weeks ago, Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode has been doing pretty well. Following on from hitting over a million players on its first day the numbers have continued to remain steady. The game’s developer Epic shared some stats for the game over the weekend and to date, Battle Royale has reached 525,000 concurrent players (on all platforms) hitting a new peak for the game.
Over the weekend, Battle Royale reached 3.7 million daily active users. The numbers are pretty decent so far, and not to be scoffed at. But considering the fact the game is free-to-play on PC and both PS4 and Xbox One, you can’t help but think it could be (and should be?) even higher. Perhaps with the increasing prevalence of streamers playing the game, and the long wait for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds to come to console, the numbers and popularity of the game mode will begin to increase further.
Fortnite’s own take on the Battle Royale formula takes the large-scale last man standing 100 player PvP mode popularised by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and combines it with the cartoon-like destructible environments and crafting elements of Fortnite. News of this mode being released for free didn’t go down too well with the PUBG developer Bluehole who said that it’s ‘currently considering taking further action’.
Having spent a bit of time with the free mode, I have to say it’s pretty fun, and our sister site Resero Network has been having quite a bit of fun with the game also.Â
