Nintendo hopes to show off the "final format" of the Wii U at E3 in 2012, a year after it unveiled the console at E3 2011. The news came from CEO Satoru Iwata during an earnings briefing.
The console has no firm release date, but Nintendo has stated that it will launch after April 2012.
During the same briefing Iwata stated that Nintendo has "learned a bitter lesson with the launch of the Nintendo 3DS" and it is "trying to take every possible measure so that the Wii U will have a successful launch".
If Nintendo hopes to show off the final form Wii U at E3 2012, there could yet be a considerable wait for the actual launch. Winter 2012 seems a strong possibility.
