ouya console 580 -

A brand new HD version of Final Fantasy III will be an OUYA launch title, the console's makers have revealed.

The news was broken this afternoon via the project's Kickstarter page.

"This morning, we are honoured to announce that OUYA is partnering with Square Enix to bring you one of the most beloved franchises in gaming - Final Fantasy," said OUYA founder Julie Uhrman. "We will kick this off with Final Fantasy III, which will be a launch title on OUYA. This will be the first time gamers outside of Japan can play FFIII on their televisions through a console.

"But that's not the end of it: We're promising to deliver Final Fantasy III like you've never seen it before – Hironobu Sakaguchi's third instalment in the role playing game franchise will be updated to exploit OUYA's high-definition resolution in glorious graphic detail."

You'll be able to try the game via a free demo, Uhrman added.

OUYA promises to be a $99 Android-based home console. Vocal supporters of the project include Brian Fargo, Mark Kern, and Robert Bowling. Bowling's new studio, Robotoki, is working on an OUYA-exclusive prequel to their debut game, Human Element.

The Kickstarter project for OUYA has raised $5.82m at the time of writing, and there are still 8 days left to go.

The console will be officially released in the US early next year. No European release has been announced, but if you pledge around $120-$130 they say they will ship the unit to you, I guess personally.

I loved them back in the day, but damnit enough with all the damn Final Fantasy re-releases already. Btw have they announced what countries the system will be released yet? States for sure, but what about UK and oceanic countries like NZ?

Hmm... I didn't know that, but then again a prequel to a game that has only been announced doesn't make for the best encouragement.

Sorry I don't want to seem pessimistic, because I do want to see this to do well, or at least see how it turns out. I just feel there isn't much there to sell the console, in terms of games, once you get past the core ideals. As of yet anyway.

That's where you're wrong I'm afraid. A prequel to the recently announced Human Element will be Ouya exclusive.

I'll agree on the Final Fantasy choice, I cant even really bring myself to play any of the pre-6 FF games lol.

To be honest final fantasy VI would of been a better choice. In my opinion its the best one, certainly the best classic one anyway.

The problem with the ouya, it has no proper exclusives, all the games are multiplatform, from consoles or iOS or pc. The console seems like it is a better place for developers rather then for consumers so far, which is why so many companies have jumped on board.
