February 2010 NPD: 360 beats Wii/PS3
Records its best ever February.
According to sales data published by the NPD Group, Microsoft's Xbox 360 sold 422,000 units in the US during February (tracked January 31 through February 27).
Xbox product director Aaron Greenberg revealed via Twitter: "Best February in Xbox 360 history."
The Xbox 360's better than expected numbers enabled the console to beat both the Wii's 397,900 units and the PS3's 360,100 units.
The portable market was once again dominated by the Nintendo DS, selling a massive 613,200 units compared by only 133,400 PSP units. The PS2 managed a further 101,900 units.
"Overall hardware unit sales were down, but certain platforms enjoyed an increase over last year. Xbox 360 nabbed the top-spot among the three console systems for the first time since September 2007 when Halo 3 was released," commented NPD analyst Anita Frazier. "PS3 enjoyed a 30 per cent increase over last year, even while retail supply is reported to remain constrained."
