The latest video game hardware sales from Japan are in and despite an upturn in sales for the Xbox 360, the console is still languishing behind its competitors. For the week ended June 17 the Xbox 360 sold 7,583 units (data compiled by Media Create) - up by around 5,000 units over the previous week mainly thanks to the anticipated release of Trusty Bell (Eternal Sonata for Western gamers).

The Xbox 360's most direct rival, the PS3, isn't exactly flying off the shelves, but still managed 9,500 units. Meanwhile the Wii continues to lead the battle of the new home consoles with 65,000 units sold over the week.

It's the Nintendo DS which leads the pack though, with weekly sales of 118,500 units, more than three times that of the PSP's 33,000 units.
