Eidos publishing brand retired

The name will live on through various Eidos-owned development studios.

GamesIndustry.biz reports that Square Enix plans to form "one efficient and powerful structure for game publishing" in Europe, which will see the Eidos brand dropped in favour of Square Enix Europe (working name).

Square Enix Europe will handle all publishing for Square Enix and Eidos products moving forward and will be headed up by current Eidos CEO Phil Rogers. The change will also see the companies' sales and marketing offices combined, which will result in an undecided number of job losses.

"Unfortunately we are expecting some jobs to be impacted directly by this in both Europe and North America," explained a company statement. "We are hoping to minimise this wherever possible and offer support and advice to any employees directly affected."

While Eidos the publisher will cease to exist, the name will live on through a number of Eidos development studios.
