Only four days after the console went on sale in Japan, eBay.co.uk has decided to prohibit users from selling PS3s in the UK.

Import PS3 consoles have been fetching upwards of £1000 on eBay, and with the PS3 not expected to launch in the UK until March, at the earliest, the high price of import consoles looked set to continue.
However, this morning, eBay issued a statement which informed its members that the listing of PS3 consoles and games is now prohibited until European pre-sales begin in February 2007. The full statement reads:
'We wanted to let you know about some restrictions that will be placed on pre-sales of the Sony PlayStation 3 console and games. To protect the whole eBay community, sellers will not be permitted to list PlayStation 3 consoles and games on eBay.co.uk until the authorised European pre-sales period begins in February 2007."
Once listings are again permitted, each must comply to a set of requirements set out by eBay.
eBay also warns that action will be taken if listings fail to comply with the guidelines.
