Has the benefit of clearing out the junk currently filling retail shelves.

Gamasutra reports that EA CEO John Riccitiello told a gathered audience at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas that the recession is "a blessing in disguise". He noted that it would allow the junk to be cleared from retail store shelves.

"Junk is hard to compete with," said Riccitiello. "We did get fat in too many places. It seemed like anyone who could draw a guy with a gun with a crayon could get funded. At least for EA, we got a little too fat, and a little too reliant on where things were."

"I'm not pro-recession," Riccitiello added, "but to quote Rahm Emanuel, 'never waste a crisis'."

I think EA have started to see some sense afterall, though I agree to the comment above about the people losing their jobs.

So yes EA should be ashamed of themselves as of how many people would be losing jobs.

Try telling that to the thousands of decent hardworking people who have lost thier jobs in the past 8 months and are struggling to scrape together enough cash to put food on the table for their families and keep a roof over their heads. What a stupid, insensitive thing to say E.A. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Been saying this for months. Most big corporations are using this as an excuse to streamline.
