Denis Dyack and much of the team from Silicon Knights responsible for Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem have announced a crowd-funding campaign for episodic horror action game Shadow of the Eternals.

Created by new studio Precursor Games, Shadow of the Eternals spans 2500 years of human history and promises to force players into questioning their perception of reality. A pilot episode is scheduled for a digital release in Q3 2014 for Wii U and PC.

A goal of $1.5 million is hoped to be achieved, but the project will still go ahead if the studio feels it has enough funding to progress.

"Our financial goal is a flexible one," explains the game's FAQ. "All contributions will go directly towards the development of this game and making it a reality. We are committed to making this game, however, if it becomes apparent that we cannot raise enough to develop this project then we will refund all pledges."

Shadow of the Eternals is being created using the CryEngine, not Epic's Unreal Engine, which caused Dyack and his team at Silicon Knights a great deal of financial trouble. Last year a court ordered Silicon Knights to destroy source code and retail products created using Epic Games' Unreal Engine. Earlier in the year the studio was told to pay Epic $4.45 million in damages for breaching their Unreal license agreement.

"Precursor Games intends to leave no stone unturned in order to create an unparalleled experience for gamers," said Paul Caporicci, CEO of Precursor Games. "We have a talented team, incredible technology with CryENGINE and a new business model where we directly integrate the fan base into the development process, allowing for new possibilities and game direction. We are very excited to see where this new direction leads."
